In a bid to combat rising erectile dysfunction (ED) in Asia, the Vietnamese firm Pfizer has agreed to pay a record $6.3 million to resolve allegations that it marketed, marketed and promoted Viagra and other drugs to children and adolescents.
Pfizer, headquartered in Ho Chi Minh City, is a global pharmaceutical company that operates in over 80 countries. Viagra is the brand name for the drug sildenafil, which is used to treat erectile dysfunction.

The deal is the latest step in Pfizer’s attempt to address rising erectile dysfunction, which has been linked to a number of dangerous drugs and increased sales of other impotence medicines.
The Viagra scandal has raised questions about the credibility of Pfizer and the fact that it was the original manufacturer of the drug.
A report by the World Health Organization in September said that Pfizer had marketed more than 1,000 products for sexual performance and claimed they were not approved by the FDA.
Pfizer said it would pay a total of $6.3 million to resolve cases that have been brought by children and adolescents, including a number of cases that were brought by patients who were unable to get or keep an erection suitable for sexual activity.
The deal, announced on May 30, is expected to further expand Pfizer’s presence in Vietnam, which has seen a rise in ED cases as a result of its presence in Vietnam.
